Wipe those revision/pollen induced tears from your eyes and survey your current study hole. Perhaps you are ensconced in an indecent number of blankets, or maybe you are pulling a Caecilius and have decided to study ‘in horto’. Whatever the case, it’s clear that’s something is missing. That’s right: snacks.

Well, I have exactly the brain food for you. Here are three delicious, boredom quelling snacks that can be made in the microwave and are therefore totally college kitchen friendly. Bon appetite!

Cheesy Nachos

Cheaper than the Whetherspoons equivalent, these nachos will add some spice to your life when it is at its most dull.

Preparation time: 2 minutes

Cooking time: 1 minute

Difficulty level: Easy

 

Ingredients:

Tortilla chips – 2-3 handfuls

Tomato salsa – 3 tbsp

Grated cheese – 3 tbsp

Jalapeno peppers – to taste

Optional: Guacamole – 1 tbsp

 

Method:

  1. Put the tortilla chips in a microwavable bowl or mug

  2. Spoon the salsa, cheese and jalapenos over the top

  3. Microwave for 1 minute (or as long as the cheese takes to melt)

  4. Top with guacamole

Chocolate Brownie

When revision is feeling sour and you are craving a sweet treat look no further than these single portion brownies – feel free to double the ingredients should your mood require it.

Preparation time: 2 minutes

Cooking time: 2 minutes

Difficulty level: Easy

 

Ingredients:

Plain flour – 2 tbsp

Soft brown sugar – 2tbsp

Cocoa powder – 1tbsp

Salt – pinch

Sunflower oil/melted butter – 1 tbsp

Milk – 2 tbsp

Optional: Vanilla ice cream – 1 scoop

 

Method:

 

  1. Mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder and salt in a small microwavable bowl or mug

  2. Add the oil and milk and mix until smooth

  3. Microwave for one minute

  4. Top with ice cream

Cooling Dip and Vegetables

For a healthier, vegan and gluten-free option try this summery recipe. You can swap out the dipping vegetables for tortilla chips to make it more filling.

Preparation time: 5 minutes

Cooking time: none

Difficulty level: Easy

 

Ingredients:

Cream cheese – 3 tbsp

Natural yogurt – 3 tbsp

Olive oil – 1 tsp

Half cucumber, grated

Handful of chopped mint

Salt and pepper – to taste

2 carrots, chopped

1 red pepper, chopped

 

Method:

 

  1. Mix the cream cheese, yogurt and olive oil until smooth

  2. Add the cucumber and mint

  3. Season with salt and pepper

  4. Serve with chopped carrots and pepper
